In addition to his legislative duties Rep. Denison is a member of the American Diabetes Association, a past member of the Springfield Leadership Council United Way and he spearheaded the drive for Springfield’s First Annual “Helping Our Teachers” fundraiser. He has served as the Member-at-Large of the Springfield City Council and Chair of the Government Affairs Committee and as a member of the Fire and Police Pension Board. He is also a past member of the City of Springfield Personnel Board, a charter member and first president of the Diplomats Clubs of Springfield, a charter member and Chairman of Fundraising for the Parkinson’s Group of the Ozarks and a charter member and first Sergeant at Arms for Springfield Rotary North. Charlie’s fondness for cooking brought his team three First Place honors and a Second Place Prize in his first three years of participation in the Rock'N Ribs BBQ. Charlie has been active in the Republican Party for many years and was a Charter Member and Director of the Springfield Area Pachyderm Club.

Born on the farm near Quanah, where he grew up, Rep. Denison graduated from Quanah High School with honors.  His music and band abilities earned him a scholarship to Hardin Simmons University in Abilene Texas. However, he chose not to attend, and Charlie looks back on this mistake in life as a driving force to help see that other youngsters get the best education possible.

Charlie and his wife, Daryl, have been active for 28 years in Springfield’s Second Baptist Church.  They have three children -- Charles Denison II, Deborah Norris and Laurie Soulsby – and five grandchildren.
